Minister Crocker Announces New Appointments to The Rooms Corporation Board of Directors

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today announced new appointments to The Rooms Corporation Board of Directors.

Three new board members have been appointed for three-year terms:

  • Erin Best
  • Jennifer Binetti
  • William (Bill) Mahoney

These appointments were recommended through the merit-based Independent Appointments Commission. Members of the public interested in opportunities to serve on provincial agencies, boards and commissions are encouraged to apply at www.iacnl.ca.

Since it opened in 2005, The Rooms has featured hundreds of exhibitions and delivered more than 1,000 education and public programs, capturing the imagination of over 1 million visitors. It is home to the province’s most extensive collection of artifacts, natural history specimens, art, and historical records.

Biographies for New Members to The Rooms Corporation Board of Directors

Erin Best
Erin Best is a partner and trademark agent at Stewart McKelvey, Atlantic Canada’s first regional law firm and one of the 20 largest law firms in Canada. She specializes in civil litigation and intellectual property law.

Erin is past chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s National Intellectual Property Section and the past chair of Stewart McKelvey’s Newfoundland and Labrador Litigation Group. She has appeared before all levels of court in Newfoundland & Labrador, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Erin represented former Premier Kathy Dunderdale at the Muskrat Falls Inquiry and currently sits on the Muskrat Falls Land Use and Expropriation Arbitration Panel.

Erin is also known as a singer, having performed in Rasa, the Idlers, and as Patsy Cline in ‘A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline.’

Jennifer Binetti
Jennifer Binetti has a wealth of experience as a finance and business executive, including over 20 years in finance, operations, and strategic planning. She has worked in the private sector, including sports and entertainment, real estate, insurance, and mining and resources.

Jennifer is currently CFO of the Deacon Group of Companies where she provides strategic leadership to all aspects of the finance and human resource functions. Prior to that, Jennifer worked for Secunda Canada, Johnson Insurance, Rio Tinto Alcan, and Deloitte.

Jennifer is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a designation with the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Jennifer also sits on the Boards of Wonderbolt Productions and the Avalon Minor Hockey Association.

William (Bill) Mahoney
William (Bill) Mahoney is the owner of a group of companies in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador related to the real estate and tourism sectors. Bill served for 27 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, holding a number of staff and command positions, retiring in 2004.

Bill is national Chair of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, and the national Vice Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council. He is former Chair of the Board of the Commissionaires Newfoundland and Labrador, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Historical Society, the St. John’s International Airport Authority, and the St. John’s Downtown Development Commission. He currently serves as a Director with a number of charitable organizations, including the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.

He has received many honours and awards for his community and military service. He is an Officer in the Order of Military Merit and also a member of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2006, he was appointed an Honorary Inspector with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and was formerly an Honorary Colonel of 9 Wing Gander. He was inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame and has also been named to the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame.

Bill has completed the Director’s Education Program in 2020 and earned a designation with the Institute of Corporate Directors.
