Newfoundland and Labrador Screen Projects Recognized on National Stage

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today joined the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation in congratulating several productions recently nominated by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards.

Produced and shot in Newfoundland and Labrador, four of the nominated productions cover a range of content and include a feature film, two television shows, and a short documentary film.

The feature film, The Righteous, is nominated for three awards:

  • Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Mark O’Brien
  • Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Kate Corbett
  • Original Screenplay, Mark O’Brien

The television series, Hudson & Rex, is nominated for three awards:

  • Best Direction, Drama Series – Blood on the Tracks
  • Best Original Music, Fiction – Under Pressure
  • Best Supporting Actor, Drama – Kevin Hanchard

The television series, Surreal Estate, is nominated for one award:

  • Best Picture Editing, Drama – Simone Smith, For Sale by Owner

The short documentary film, Nalujuk Night, is nominated for one award:

  • Best Short Documentary – Jennie Williams, Latonia Hartery, Kat Baulu, Rohan Fernando, Annette Clarke

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television produces the Canadian Screen Awards, bringing together the screen-based industry annually to celebrate the country’s top talent in the film, television and digital sectors. The awards will be presented on Sunday, April 10, 2022.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation is a Crown corporation of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador responsible for growing the local screen industries through the creation of local film and television productions for national and international markets, and as a destination for guest productions to shoot in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation, together with the province, has supported local production companies, whose success has created a thriving and sustainable industry in the province.
