The following is being distributed at the request of The Rooms.

The Rooms has received a significant collection of nearly 400 Inuit fine art prints from Dorset Fine Arts – Kinngait Studio. The collection, donated by William B. Ritchie, an artist and master lithographer based in Newfoundland and Labrador, is one of the largest and most valuable gifts of artworks The Rooms has ever received.

From 1988 to 2019, Ritchie was Arts Advisor, and later Studio Manager, with Kinngait Studios. Founded in 1959 in the hamlet of Kinngait, Nunavut (formerly known as Cape Dorset), Kinngait Studios is the longest-running print studio in Canada, and for more than 60 years has been at the forefront of contemporary Inuit art-making.

The William B. Ritchie Collection includes the work of artists and master printmakers who helped establish Kinngait Studios in the early years, as well as works created by the next generation of artists.

To mark this amazing contribution to the provincial art collection, The Rooms is pleased to present more than 70 of these works in the exhibition, Helping Hands: 30 Years at Kinngait Studios, which is on now until Sunday, June 5, 2022.
