The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, is once again congratulating Team NL swimmers Chris Weeks of St. John’s and Thomas Pelley of Paradise, on their second medal wins at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ontario.
At the finals last evening, Chris Weeks won a Gold medal in the Men’s 50 metre Butterfly, and clocked a time of 24.53. This Gold medal win is his first Gold at the Games and it is also Team NL’s first Gold medal in swimming at the Games since 1993. In addition to his Gold medal win, Chris has set two new provincial records, for swimming in the 15 – 17 age range and in the category of open swimming.
Also at the finals last evening, Thomas Pelley won a Bronze medal in the Men’s 100 metre Backstroke LC SOC, and clocked a time of 1:18.36.
This is the first week of competition at the 2022 Canada Summer Games, and to date, Team NL has won five medals. During week one, athletes will compete in baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, cycling, rugby sevens, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, triathlon, and wrestling.
Approximately 400 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff will participate in the 2022 Canada Summer Games. Team NL is represented by 22 teams, participating in 17 sports.
