A contract valued at $2.4 million has been awarded to JCL Investments Inc. to replace Aspen Brook Bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway, approximately 20 kilometres west of Grand Falls-Windsor.

The contract also includes work to remove the current bridge, pave the highway in the area, and remove the diversion around the current bridge.

Work is anticipated to be completed later this year.

In 2021, the department rehabilitated 27 bridges, completed work on two bridge replacements, and began work to replace five others. The department also expects to issue a tender this winter to replace Rushy Pond Bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway, approximately six kilometres west of Grand Falls-Windsor.

“Reliable infrastructure such as bridges on the Trans-Canada Highway are very important for the transportation of goods and services throughout our province. Construction of new bridges help to ensure the safety of residents and tourists travelling on our highways. Our government will continue to invest to help secure our transportation network and make it better prepared to withstand the impacts of climate change. We look forward to more work on infrastructure this construction season.”
