The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is enhancing its NL 511 website, app, and phone service to include more information regarding marine services.
The new marine service enhancements include:
- My511 app notifications for ferry service changes;
- Ferry crew having the ability to provide updates from the vessel or port;
- Ferry information available via the 511 phone Interactive Voice Response service, website and app;
- Regular updates on schedule changes;
- Up-to-date marine weather information from Environment Canada; and
- Automated ferry service updates to Twitter, via @NL511Updates, regarding ferry service status changes.
The NL 511 app continues to provide up-to-date information to help residents and tourists make better-informed decisions before they travel.
The app, which is free of charge and is available on smartphone app stores, can be customized by users to display specific features and to receive notifications for routes they use frequently, including when travel is not recommended on provincial highways or ferry status changes.
The service is available by downloading and installing the app, visiting nl511.ca, or by calling 511.
Further enhancements to the app are planned for later in 2022.
Quote
“The 511 service has valuable information for residents and tourists before they travel and now the service will have additional up-to-date information for everyone who depends on marine services. We continue to make changes as necessary to provide the best service we can to the people of the province. We encourage everyone who as the app to use it for their planning and please travel safe.”
