Contracts Awarded for Highway Improvements in Labrador

Work will soon begin on improvements to North West River Highway (Route 520), north of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and three bridges in Labrador.

A contract valued at approximately $1.6 million has been awarded to JCL Investments Inc. for paving and shoulder repairs on three kilometres of North West River Highway between its intersection with Edmonton Street and North West River.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure anticipates this work being completed this construction season.

Additional work is being planned for future construction seasons.

A $3.5 million contract has also been awarded to JCL Investments for the rehabilitation of St. Charles River Bridge (Route 510) near Lodge Bay, Pinware River Bridge (Route 510), and Goose River Bridge (Route 520).

The scope of bridge work includes:

  1. Replacement of the existing timber deck, installation of new steel rail system and concrete end blocks, repairs to steel trusses and concrete substructure, and installation of new expansion joints on the Pinware Bridge;
  2. Installation of new steel connections on the Goose River Bridge; and
  3. Application of concrete sealer to all exposed concrete surfaces on St. Charles River Bridge.
