The Honourable John G. Abbott, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, and Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, is recognizing the province’s over 1,800 social workers during March, which is National Social Work Month.

Social workers in Newfoundland and Labrador are engaged in diverse areas of practice including child protection, foster care and adoptions, health care, housing, senior care, addictions, mental health and income support.

The focus of this year’s National Social Work Month is “Social Work is Essential.” This reflects the important contribution of social work in supporting health and well-being across all systems and practice settings, and the vital role of social workers in these areas.

Minister Abbott would also like to recognize Henry Kielley from the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development, who was named the recipient of the 2023 Canadian Association of Social Workers Distinguished Service Award for Newfoundland and Labrador, for his outstanding contribution to the social work profession.

Quote
“During National Social Work Month, I would like to thank all social workers for their dedicated efforts to support the health, safety and social well-being of individuals and families throughout communities in our province.”
Honourable John G. Abbott
