  • Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture

April 18, 2023

Funding applications for the 2023 Community Garden Support Program are available to help eligible municipalities, schools and community groups establish and enhance new and existing community gardens. There is no deadline to apply, but applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

As part of the $2.25 million Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program, this year the Provincial Government is investing over $132,000 – a $32,000 increase from 2022 – into non-repayable grants to increase:

  • Food self-sufficiency;
  • Access to fresh foods;
  • Consumption of fruits and vegetables; and
  • Awareness and appreciation of the importance of local food production and the agriculture sector.

Since 2019, the Community Garden Support Program has supported more than 500 projects, with thousands of people working together to establish and grow community gardens throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

The 2023 application and program guide are available on the Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture website. For more information on the program call 709-637-2474 or email CGSP@gov.nl.ca.

Quote
“The Community Garden Support Program is growing bigger every year, with more people, from students to senior citizens, working together to contribute to food self-sufficiency here at home. With an extra funding boost for 2023, we hope to see even more municipalities, schools, service groups and not-for-profit organizations growing and expanding community gardens all over Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Honourable Derrick Bragg
Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture
