Public Accounts Committee Requests Audit of Matters Related to Personal Care and Long-Term Care Facilities

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts has issued a request, pursuant to section 22 of the Auditor General Act, 2021, for an audit of matters related to personal care and long-term facilities in the province.

In April 2023, the Auditor General released a monitoring report on outstanding performance audit recommendations issued from 2014 to 2020. Sharing similar concerns that some recommendations issued in reports during that timeframe remain not fully implemented or otherwise resolved, the Public Accounts Committee began further follow-up and questioning of various entities. The Committee acknowledges that while work has been done to implement some of the Auditor General’s recommendations, it is particularly concerned about remaining outstanding recommendations related to personal care homes and potential similar issues with long-term care, given the ongoing issues experienced in these areas and the associated life-safety concerns.

Quotes
“All members of the Public Accounts Committee share similar concerns on matters related to personal care homes and long-term care. Considering the time that has elapsed since the audits from which the outstanding recommendations originate, the Committee felt that another review of these areas is warranted at this time.”
Pleaman Forsey, MHA
Chair, Public Accounts Committee

“The Committee appreciates the attention of the Auditor General to these matters as we continue our important work to improve delivery of programs and services that affect the lives of people across this province. All Committee members stand united in the view that the delivery and quality of care to vulnerable individuals of our population is of the utmost importance.”

Vice-Chair, Public Accounts Committee
