The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills, will be signing a proclamation tomorrow (Friday, September 15) officially designating September 8 to 17, 2023 as Welcoming Week.

The signing will take place in advance of Sharing Our Culture’s Welcoming Week Open House at Summerville Condominium Building, 390 Elizabeth Avenue, St. John’s at 10:00 am. The Sharing Our Cultures Open House will be open to the public from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Sharing Our Cultures was founded to promote the values of multiculturalism and intercultural relations within a bilingual and multicultural Canadian society, and actively works to connect culturally diverse youth within the province by fostering belonging and acceptance among all children.

The celebration of Welcoming Week is based on a vision that Newfoundland and Labrador is a province with welcoming communities where culture diversity and inclusion are valued.

Welcoming Week is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the people and values that help everyone feel welcomed, with all residents encouraged to support communities by fostering inclusion, respect and intercultural understanding.
