The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills, will be taking part in the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration today (Friday, November 17).

The meetings are taking place in Toronto at the Hilton Toronto Downtown. The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. EST (10:00 a.m. NST)

Continuing to build on Newfoundland and Labrador’s historic immigration success in 2023, Minister Byrne will be engaging in discussions with ministers on a number of key issues, including:

• Calls to increase funding for settlement agencies, such as the Association for New Canadians, who collectively continue to receive the lowest base amount of settlement funding per capita among all provinces in Canada.
• The need to deliver Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada services in-person in the province; and
• Concerns with federal immigration targets impacting Newfoundland and Labrador’s plans for population growth.
