The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today announced that Newfoundland and Labrador will host the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards. St. John’s will play host city to the award show again for the first time since 2008.
Leading up to the awards ceremony, there will be a week-long celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canadian folk music. Special events such as showcases and all ages events will be planned to celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich history in folk music.
The award ceremony and related festivities will coincide with the recently announced Year of the Arts, a celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich arts and cultural sector. This year-long celebration will feature public initiatives including events, festivals, music and performances.
Minister Crocker was joined at the announcement by Wade Pinhorn, Local Chair, Canadian Folk Music Awards Event Committee; Cathy Duke, Chief Executive Officer of Destination St. John’s; Anna Brophy, Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society; and Rhonda Tulk-Lane, Chief Executive Officer of MusicNL, as well as other key stakeholders.
