Today, the Provincial Government invited fish buyers and fish processors to submit an Expression of Interest application for a temporary Fish Buyers Licence to export live snow crab out of the province for the 2024 snow crab fishery.

The purpose of the Expression of Interest is to evaluate allowing outside buyers, by providing Newfoundland and Labrador snow crab harvesters with more opportunities to sell their catch for the 2024 snow crab fishery. The Expression of Interest includes a fish buyer’s licence application so that timely issuance of licences can proceed, should there be an interest.

Expressions of Interest, including the application for a fish buyer’s licence, must be submitted electronically to derricklockyer@gov.nl.ca. Program details, eligibility requirements and information on the application process are available on the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture website here.

The Provincial Government will continue to work with all stakeholders to advance our fishing industry and derive the maximum benefit from the public’s fishing resources in Newfoundland and Labrador.
