The Honourable Pam Parsons, Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equality, today announced $30,000 to support Planned Parenthood Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Health Centre’s 2SLGBTQQIA+ Warm Line.
The funding is provided under the National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence, a four-year bilateral agreement the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador signed with Women and Gender Equality Canada, resulting in $13.6 million in new funding to invest in violence-prevention-related initiatives throughout the province.
Planned Parenthood Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Health Centre is a non-profit organization serving all regions of the province. The Warm Line is a free, confidential and inclusive, volunteer peer-support service run by and for members of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, providing a safe space for people to talk through problems and concerns, including experiences with gender-based violence.
The Warm Line operates from Wednesday to Sunday, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Those needing to access the line should call or text 1-800-230-8041.
