The Honourable Chris Tibbs, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.

Undertakings Registered:

Peak Pond Quarry Extension                                                                 (Reg. 2396)
Proponent: Department of Transportation and Infrastructure
The proponent is proposing to develop and operate an 8.62‑hectare extension to an existing quarry, located south of the Trans‑Canada Highway and approximately 3 km west of Whitbourne. The expansion would supply essential aggregate materials for provincial highway construction, upgrades, and maintenance. The work would also support the proponent’s projects across eastern Newfoundland, including future work along the Trans‑Canada Highway. The undertaking was registered on March 12, 2026. The deadline for public comment is April 17, 2026, and the minister’s decision is due by April 26, 2026.

Codroy Valley Fibre Cable Installation                                                (Reg. 2395)
Proponent: Bell Canada
The proponent is proposing to install 167.8 kilometres of fibre optic cables within the existing power utility, right‑of‑way in the Codroy Valley and South Branch regions of southwestern Newfoundland. Project activities would include vegetation clearing, tree trimming, and pole replacements, followed by the installation of the new fibre optic cable.
