The Honourable Chris Tibbs, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.

Undertakings Registered:

Furby’s Cove Quarry Extension  (Reg. 2415)
Proponent: Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (TI)

The proponent is proposing to develop and operate a 12‑hectare extension to an existing sand and gravel quarry located along Route 364 on the south coast of Newfoundland near the Furby’s Cove interchange. The proposed expansion would enable continued extraction of aggregate resources to support provincial highway construction, upgrades, maintenance, and winter sand applications.

The undertaking was registered on June 18, 2026. The deadline for public comment is July 24, 2026, and the minister’s decision is due by August 2, 2026.

Environmental Preview Report Required

Glover Island ATV Trail  (Reg. 2407)
Proponent: Where Ya Wannabe Outfitters / 77375 Newfoundland and Labrador Ltd.

The minister has advised the proponent that an Environmental Preview Report is required for the project to provide additional information to facilitate an informed decision.

An Environmental Assessment Committee will be appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to draft guidelines for the proponent for preparation of the Environmental Preview Report. The public will be invited to provide comments on the Environmental Preview Report. For further information on this project, please contact EAProjectComments@gov.nl.ca.

Environmental Impact Statement Required

St. Lawrence South Ridge Fluorspar Mine Extension  (Reg. 2406)
Proponent: Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc.

The minister has advised the proponent that an Environmental Impact Statement is required for the project to provide additional information to facilitate an informed decision.

An Environmental Assessment Committee will be appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to draft guidelines for the proponent for preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement.
