Minister Tibbs Acknowledges the Passing of Dr. Bill Montevecchi

Statement from the Honourable Chris Tibbs, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador:

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. William Montevecchi and extend my sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and students.

“For over four decades, Dr. Montevecchi served as an internationally renowned and distinguished marine biologist and professor of biology, ocean sciences and psychology at Memorial University.

“Dr. Montevecchi dedicated his life and career to developing seabird research programs and advocating for the conservation and protection of natural areas and wildlife throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. He was a longtime supporter of the province’s Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve, known as the most accessible seabird colony in North America.

“On behalf of the Provincial Government, I join the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and the environmental and marine sciences community to honour Dr.  Montevecchi’s remarkable career and life. I offer my thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and all who are mourning his passing.

“May his work, legacy and memory continue to inspire future leaders to work for the betterment of our environment.”
