The Honourable Andrea Barbour, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.
Undertakings Registered:
Lodge Bay Quarry (Reg. 2435)
Proponent: Pittman’s Enterprises Limited
The proponent is proposing to develop and operate a four-hectare quarry located off Route 510 in southern Labrador, approximately 14 kilometres southwest of Lodge Bay. Quarry materials will be used for regional construction and infrastructure projects. The undertaking was registered on September 18, 2026. The deadline for public comment is October 24, 2026, and the minister’s decision is due by November 2, 2026.

Fischells Salt Dome Power Generation Project – Withdrawal (Reg. 2413) and Resubmission of Registration (Reg. 2436)
Proponent: Triple Point Resources
The proponent is proposing to construct and operate a renewable energy generation and storage facility in the Bay St. George area of western Newfoundland. The project would integrate wind energy generation with Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage technology, allowing for the storage and management of renewable energy, including the use of generated electricity to power the Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage system and support potential future export opportunities.
Proposed key project components include:
- A main facility, including salt caverns, salt production, compressed air energy storage and associated infrastructure.
- Marine components and pipelines to transport seawater from St. George’s Bay for use in the solution mining process and potentially for saltwater disposal.
- Wind farm and associated infrastructure.
- A transmission line connecting the facility to the existing electricity transmission infrastructure at the Bottom Brook terminal station.
The project registration replaces EA 2413, which was withdrawn on September 18, 2026. The resubmission includes revisions to the project’s intended market focus, including the use of wind-generated electricity to support operation of the Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage system and the exploration of potential future export opportunities. EA 2436 is a new Registration and should be considered in its entirety based on the information contained herein.
