The Honourable Paul Dinn, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, has announced the appointment of six members to the Memorial University Board of Regents for three-year terms.

The appointments were made following a merit-based selection process administered by the Independent Appointments Commission, in accordance with the Independent Appointments Commission Act.

Five members have been appointed as general member representatives:

• Dean Ingram
• Alex Gibson
• Peter Carver
• Leslie Rowsell
• Travis Martin

Nina Darleen Rumbolt-Pye is also appointed as a joint representative, serving on both Memorial University’s Board of Regents and the College of the North Atlantic’s Board of Governors. This joint appointment supports enhanced collaboration between the province’s public post-secondary institutions.

The Board of Regents serves as Memorial University’s corporate governing body and is responsible for overseeing the university’s property, finances, operations and overall affairs. It is composed of individuals with a broad range of knowledge and expertise.

Biographies
Dean Ingram
Dean Ingram is an experienced educator and education leader from the Clarenville area with more than 30 years of service in Newfoundland and Labrador’s education system. He has held roles as a teacher, principal and senior education leader, including serving as president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association from 2017 to 2021 and national vice-president of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation. A Memorial University graduate with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, he currently serves as associate principal and numeracy lead with Third Academy, supporting online and distance learning programs for students with diverse learning needs.

Alex Gibson
Alex Gibson is a human resources and organizational leadership professional from the Avalon region with extensive experience in labour relations, recruitment and workforce planning. He currently serves as senior human resources advisor with Green Infrastructure Partners and is a member of the Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador board of directors, where he acts as the board’s human resources subject matter expert. Mr. Gibson brings significant governance experience through his involvement with the Memorial University Presidential Search Committee, the St. John’s Board of Trade, and the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador board of directors.

Peter Carver
Peter Carver is a Memorial University alumnus and business leader with extensive experience in finance, accounting, real estate and business management. Based in Ontario, he is president of The Carver Group, where he oversees a family-owned commercial real estate portfolio. Mr. Carver has a strong record of board and committee leadership through his service with the Memorial University Greater Toronto Area Alumni Engagement Board, the Toronto Golf Club Board, and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra Board.

Leslie Rowsell
Leslie Rowsell is a health-care leader from the Burin Peninsula with more than 33 years of experience in nursing and health-care administration. She currently serves as senior site manager at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre and has held leadership roles across acute care, emergency services, cancer care, mental health, children’s and women’s health, community care, and long-term care. Holding a Master of Nursing from Athabasca University, Ms. Rowsell brings extensive expertise in quality improvement, patient safety and rural health-care delivery, as well as a longstanding commitment to community service.

Travis Martin
Travis Martin is a business and community leader from Paradise with experience spanning the energy, banking and public policy sectors. He currently serves as vice-president of the Mount Pearl Chamber of Commerce and customer service supervisor with Newfoundland Power. A graduate of Memorial University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Diploma in Human Resources Management from College of the North Atlantic, Mr. Martin brings expertise in customer service, operations, communications and stakeholder engagement. He has demonstrated a strong commitment to community leadership through volunteer and board service with organizations including the Candlelighters Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, Clarenville Area Co-op, Rotary Club and Junior Achievement.

Nina Darleen Rumbolt-Pye
Nina Darleen Rumbolt-Pye is an Indigenous leader, educator, author and community advocate from Mary’s Harbour, Labrador. A graduate of Memorial University with degrees in Political Science and English, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to community development, Indigenous engagement, and cultural preservation. Ms. Rumbolt-Pye currently serves as chair of Empowering Indigenous Women for Stronger Communities and is a board member with WritersNL and Them Days Magazine. Through her leadership, writing, and advocacy, she works to advance Indigenous perspectives, preserve Labrador history, and support education, arts and community well-being.
