The Provincial Government values the work of the Office of the Auditor General and is dedicated to modernizing financial practices, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that public funds are managed responsibly for the benefit of residents today and into the future.
The Honourable Craig Pardy, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board Secretariat, along with the Honourable Pleaman Forsey, Minister of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands, will be available to the media tomorrow (Friday, April 24). Minister Pardy will speak to the Auditor General’s report on Fraud Risk Management. The availability will take place outside the House of Assembly at 9:00 a.m.
Following the release of the Auditor General’s audit on fraud risk management, the Honourable Craig Pardy, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board Secretariat, is pleased to report significant progress made by the Office of the Comptroller General toward addressing the recommendations made related to fraud management.
To date, progress includes:
- An updated and strengthened Government Fraud Management Policy, ensuring the policy remains current, comprehensive, and responsive to emerging fraud risks.
- Clear, government-wide expectations for fraud prevention have been established and shared with departments and entities. This includes expectations related to fraud prevention, reporting, and annual fraud risk self-assessments.
- Formal, mandatory fraud awareness training for all Provincial Government employees, including those who are employed by entities. This reinforces a culture of accountability and zero tolerance for fraud.
- Enhanced oversight and reporting mechanisms, including clear fraud reporting obligations and requirements for departments and entities to monitor training completion and fraud related activity across government.
- Strengthened audit resources to provide additional oversight on fraud management for entities
The Office of the Comptroller General will continue to advance progress on fraud management over the course of the next year.
