The Honourable Tony Wakeham, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and members of Cabinet will join residents throughout the province and abroad to mark Memorial Day and Canada Day on Wednesday, July 1.

Premier Wakeham will attend Memorial Day and Canada Day events in his district.

The Honourable Lin Paddock will represent the Provincial Government at official ceremonies in St. John’s, including the Memorial Day ceremony at the National War Memorial and Canada Day celebrations at Signal Hill National Historic Site.

The Honourable Andrea Barbour will represent Newfoundland and Labrador in France as part of the Trail of the Caribou commemorations, honouring the service and sacrifice of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment during the First World War.

Other members of Cabinet will participate in Memorial Day and Canada Day ceremonies in their respective districts and communities.

Memorial Day is a solemn occasion to remember the Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who served and sacrificed, including those who fought at Beaumont-Hamel on July 1, 1916. Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate our shared country, its people and the values that unite Canadians.

Members of the public are encouraged to participate in ceremonies and commemorative events taking place throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
