“Elders hold a sacred place within Indigenous communities. They are teachers, protectors of history and culture, and a source of guidance whose influence extends far beyond their own communities. The legacy Elder Nui leaves behind will continue to be felt by all those whose lives he touched.
“At this time of loss, we join Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in honouring Elder Joachim Nui Sr.’s remarkable life and in offering our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and all who are mourning his passing.
“May his memory continue to be a source of strength, pride and inspiration for generations to come.”
