The Provincial Government is making it easier for residents to renew their driver’s licence photo with the launch of a new online service through MyGovNL. With more than 425,000 registered users, MyGovNL is the province’s one-stop digital service shop.
Residents will receive a reminder 90 days before their photo is due to expire, which will include information about how to use this new service.
After signing in to their MyGovNL account, residents can use a smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera to complete the renewal process. A simple checklist is provided to help ensure photos meet the requirements for proper lighting, facial expression and position, and the removal of accessories such as hats or glasses. A real-time verification process confirms the photo was taken at the time of submission and matches the driver’s photo already on file with Motor Registration. All photos will continue to be reviewed by trained Motor Registration staff before a licence is renewed and issued.
New driver’s licences are expected to arrive via registered mail to the address on file with Motor Registration within seven to 10 business days.
This new service supports the Provincial Government’s commitment to reduce red tape and builds on its ongoing efforts to make government services simpler, more efficient, and easier to use and access for the residents and businesses of Newfoundland and Labrador. It reduces red tape by eliminating the need for residents to book an appointment, travel to a government office, or wait in line to complete the renewal process in person.
Residents who do prefer in-person service can continue to access driver licensing services at Motor Registration Offices and Government Service Centres throughout the province. Appointments for driver’s licence photos can still be booked online or by calling the contact centre, and Motor Registration continues to offer Senior Wednesdays.
