Through a $21 million investment in Budget 2026, 45 new long-term care spaces will be added to the Corner Brook Community Health Centre, as part of government’s commitment to support individuals and families to live and age well with dignity and safety.

The Honourable Tony Wakeham, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Joedy Wall, Minister of Health and Community Services, today highlighted the investment in the Corner Brook Community Health Centre as part of government’s broader efforts to build and upgrade health care facilities and strengthen community-based care now and into the future.

Renovations at the Corner Brook Community Health Centre are currently underway with 15 of the new beds expected to open in spring 2027 and the remaining 30 beds anticipated in fall 2027.

The project is a significant investment in long-term care services in western Newfoundland and Labrador. It will help meet growing demand for long-term care placements, improve patient flow in hospitals in the Western Zone, and restore and reopen the facility’s former commercial kitchen and personal laundry facilities as part of renovations to create 45 new long-term care beds.

Increasing long-term care capacity in the region will also help reduce acute care pressures at Western Memorial Regional Hospital by providing appropriate placements for patients awaiting long-term care. This will make more acute-care beds available for patients requiring hospital-level services, improving access to care, and supporting more efficient use of hospital resources.

Repurposing the Corner Brook Community Health Centre also supports government’s strategic approach to investments to help meet the evolving needs of patients, residents, and families.
