Resource Enforcement Officers from the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands will be participating in a FI-210 Fire Investigation course in the Hamilton’s Pond area of Springdale from June 3-15.
This course offers training in the process of locating the origins and determining the causes of wildfires. As part of the training, wildland firefighters from the Wildfire Services Division will be conducting small, controlled burns in the area.
These fires will be carefully managed using appropriate fire suppression resources and safety measures, with a water bomber on standby. The timing of the controlled burns will depend on favourable weather conditions and appropriate Fire Weather Index ratings.
Residents in the area may notice smoke and water bomber activity during this time. This activity is part of the training plan.
Residents are asked to avoid the area to prevent interfering with the training exercises.
For information, contact the Springdale Regional Service Office at 709-673-3821 or after-hours at 709-668-0777.
