Public Advisory: Resource Enforcement Division Seeking Public Assistance on Moose Wastage Incident on Batteau Barrens Resource Road

The Resource Enforcement Division of the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands is seeking information related to a moose wastage incident which occurred on Batteau Barrens Resource Road. The entrance to this road is off Route 430 approximately 12 kilometres south of the community of River of Ponds.

Resource Enforcement Officers initiated an investigation after the remains of an adult cow moose were abandoned at the 15-kilometre mark of the resource road. The incident occurred sometime during the period of October 1-2. A map of the area is below.

The public is reminded it is an offence under the Wild Life Act to wilfully or intentionally allow the flesh of wildlife that has been taken or killed for food to be destroyed, wasted or spoiled. Intentional wastage of meat carries a fine of not less than $500, up to a maximum of $25,000, and in default of payment, imprisonment up to three months.

The Resource Enforcement Division is asking anyone with information that may assist the investigation to call 709-861-4701 or make an anonymous report via the 24/7 Poaching Line at 1-877-820-0999. Reports can also be submitted anonymously at www.stoppoaching.ca.
