The Honourable Craig Pardy, Minister of Finance, is proud to announce a donation of $250,000 to the Community Food Sharing Association. The donation is a result of net profits from the sale of American product at the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC).

Today’s donation builds on the donation of $500,000 made last December. The Provincial Government has committed to donating up to $1 million, pending the sale of the product.

The Community Food Sharing Association will ensure that food banks throughout Newfoundland and Labrador continue to benefit. There are 60 food banks in Newfoundland and Labrador that serve more than 15,000 people, including 4,700 children under the age of 18 and 1,300 seniors, on a monthly basis. This represents a 44.1 per cent increase since 2019.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador remains firmly committed to promoting and supporting locally produced and Canadian-made goods, recognizing the vital role they play in strengthening our communities and economy.

Quotes
“I am so proud of our government’s work to donate these sale proceeds to food banks across Newfoundland and Labrador. When we talk about spending smarter, we’re not just talking about fiscal responsibility – we’re talking about making smart decisions that just make sense, decisions that directly benefit the people of our province. I want to sincerely thank our partners at the NLC for their leadership and commitment in making this happen. Together, we are helping strengthen communities and support the Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who need it most.

“We are proud to support the Community Food Sharing Association and the critical role it plays in helping food banks across our province. This additional $250,000 contribution reflects our shared commitment with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to support those in need and strengthen the communities we serve. We are grateful for the dedication of the Community Food Sharing Association and its partners, whose work makes a meaningful difference in the lives of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians every day.”
Bruce Keating
President and CEO, NLC

“On behalf of the Community Food Sharing Association, I extend our deepest appreciation to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and NLC for their continued and extraordinary support. This most recent contribution of $250,000 from the sale of American Liquor comes in addition to the $500,000 donated in December 2025, bringing their total investment to $750,000 in support of food security in our province.

At a time when food bank usage continues to rise, this sustained commitment has a direct and immediate impact on families and individuals facing food insecurity. The leadership shown by both the Provincial Government and NLC strengthens our ability to support communities across Newfoundland and Labrador and ensures that those who rely on food banks have access to nutritious food. We are profoundly grateful for this ongoing partnership and for the shared dedication to addressing hunger in our province.”
