The Department of Jobs, Growth and Rural Development is seeking public input to strengthen protections for foreign workers in Newfoundland and Labrador and improve outcomes for employers.
This province-wide consultation will focus on how immigration programs are delivered and managed, as well as potential updates to legislation, policies and oversight mechanisms.
Newcomers arrive through both federal and provincial immigration pathways, including Newfoundland and Labrador’s Provincial Nominee Program and the Atlantic Immigration Program. These programs help employers throughout the province meet their labour market needs.
This work supports government priorities related to population and economic growth, rural development and workforce sustainability. A fair and well-regulated immigration system is essential to supporting workers, employers and communities.
Through this consultation, the department is seeking input on how provincial immigration legislation and enhanced foreign worker protections could:
- Strengthen public safety.
- Improve program integrity, transparency and oversight.
- Deliver better outcomes for newcomers, employers and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
We want to hear from workers, employers, newcomers and community members. Members of the public are invited to participate through the EngageNL platform or by emailing immigrationconsultation@gov.nl.ca.
Targeted consultation sessions will also be held across the province with key stakeholder groups to ensure diverse perspectives are reflected.
