Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are reminded that daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 8, when clocks are set one hour ahead at 2:00 a.m.

When manually adjusting clocks, residents are also encouraged to change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

The Fire Services Division of the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands advises that smoke alarms are required in the following areas of a residence:

  • On every level of the home, including the basement.
  • In every bedroom.
  • In the hallway or room outside of every bedroom or separate sleeping area.

It is recommended that households or cabins that have a wood, oil or propane fuel-fired appliance also have a carbon monoxide detector installed on each level of the structure.
