Officials from the Public Procurement Agency will take part in the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association’s Build 2026 Expo, offering guidance and practical insights on procurement and tendering opportunities.

Taking place May 6-7 at the Jack Byrne Regional Sport and Entertainment Centre in Torbay, the Expo is province’s largest commercial and industrial construction trade event showcasing the latest equipment advances and newest technology applications in different aspects of the commercial and industrial construction industry.

The Public Procurement Agency oversees the acquisition of goods and services for Provincial Government departments under the Public Procurement Act. This legislation, which also applies to other public bodies such as municipalities, promotes best value, openness, and accountability in procurement processes.

Provincial procurement policies are designed to support Newfoundland and Labrador businesses and improve their ability to secure government work locally through initiatives such as the NL First Procurement Strategy.

Representatives from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro will also be in attendance.

The Provincial Government recognizes the important role local businesses play in strengthening the provincial economy and remains focused on enhancing the broader impacts of procurement. Through the Sustainable Procurement Policy, government departments and larger public sector organizations are now required to factor in sustainability considerations such as local economic benefits and environmental responsibility when making purchasing decisions.
