July 3, 2026

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure wishes to advise the public that the National War Memorial at 92 Water Street, St. John’s, will be closed to the public on Monday (July 6) to accommodate spraying for the presence of Japanese Beetle in the City of St. John’s, weather permitting.

A treatment program has been developed that will include the use of a larvicide to target these pests. This substance is registered by Health Canada and approved for use in Newfoundland and Labrador under the Environment Protection Act to control pests.

The Japanese Beetle is an invasive species that is a threat to the province’s agriculture and forest industries. More information is available here.

The site will re-open to the public on Tuesday (July 7).
