The Honourable Elvis Loveless, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture and the Honourable Sarah Stoodley, Minister of Digital Government and Service NL will participate in National Tree Day ceremonies tomorrow (Wednesday, September 23).
Minister Loveless will attend a tree planting ceremony in Corner Brook at C.C. Loughlin Elementary School, 1 Citadel Drive, starting at 10:30 a.m. Minister Stoodley will attend a tree planting ceremony in St. John’s at Kenmount Terrace Community Park, 85 Messenger Drive, starting at 11:00 a.m.
Each September National Forest Week presents an opportunity to promote and highlight forest benefits through community events such as National Tree Day – celebrated each year on the Wednesday of National Forest Week.
Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture staff at forest management district offices will also be supporting National Tree Day by coordinating the delivery of 3,000 tree seedlings from the Centre of Agriculture and Forestry Research in Wooddale to students at several schools throughout the province. The department of is also partnering with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District to host a National Forest Week Art Contest open to K-12 students.
