The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is asking residents in the area of Salmonier Nature Park to exercise caution and report any sightings of a Canada Lynx that recently escaped from the park when its enclosure was damaged by a falling tree. Park staff and Conservation Officers are working to capture the animal, believed to be within the park’s boundary or in close proximity.
Although this animal is not considered a threat to public safety and is likely to avoid people, wild animals can be unpredictable if approached.
Area residents are asked to avoid encounters with wildlife by:
- Ensuring children and pets are not left unattended when outside
- Securing any food or garbage around their properties
Anyone encountering or sighting a Canada Lynx in the Salmonier Line area is asked to contact Salmonier Nature Park at 709-229-7888, or the Paddy’s Pond Forestry and Wildlife Office at 709-729-4180, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 709-685-7273 after hours.
