Auditor General, Denise Hanrahan, delivered her report to the House of Assembly today on the update on recommendations from the June 2017 Report on Performance Audits of Departments and Crown Agencies. The report provides an overview of the implementation status of 37 recommendations made to government in the 2017 report that included 17 organizations.

The Office of the Auditor General monitors and reports on the implementation status of recommendations approximately three years after reports are tabled in the House of Assembly. It is generally expected that this period provides sufficient time for departments and Crown agencies to consider and implement the recommendations. Recommendations not fully implemented leave organizations exposed to known risks.

After three years, eight of the 37 recommendations (22 percent) have been fully implemented or otherwise resolved. A further 26 recommendations (70 percent) have been partially implemented, and three recommendations have not been actioned after three years.

Quote
“Our recommendations are designed to improve processes and overall performance in government’s management and delivery of programs and services. I am concerned that the full implementation rate of twenty-two percent that we are reporting this year is significantly lower than our expectations and the forty-eight percent our office reported in our last update report.”

I encourage all government departments and Crown agencies to focus on timely implementation of recommendations made by the Office of the Auditor General. Implementation of our recommendations will demonstrate to the House of Assembly and the public that government desires to improve its delivery of programs and services.”
