September 20, 2018

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is encouraging residents to participate in upcoming festivals, fairs, expos and exhibitions that celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador’s growing agriculture industry. At these events, local farmers and producers showcase their products and services while people attending can see and sample the many foods that are grown in the province.

A full event schedule can be found at www.faa.gov.nl.ca/agrifoods/stats/pdf/festival_events.pdf.

Visitors will learn more about farming and farm animals and have the opportunity to talk to professionals about the expanding agriculture industry, gardening and growing their own food. They can also hear more about the department’s new agri-truck which is increasing public awareness of farming opportunities in the province.

Representatives from the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources will provide information about products farmers are producing throughout the province, the depth of the agriculture industry, food security and safety, and ongoing Provincial Government efforts to support farmers and producers in their work to increase food sustainability and self-sufficiency.

Support for agriculture delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

Quote
“Events focused on agriculture are a long-standing tradition in many communities in Newfoundland and Labrador and their continued success illustrates the Provincial Government’s commitment to the agriculture industry. I thank the exhibitors who are volunteering their time during a very busy harvest season and I encourage residents to come out to support their efforts. Events like these are helping us achieve our Way Forward commitment to provide important employment and economic opportunities and increase the province’s food self-sufficiency.”
