The Honourable Tony Wakeham, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, confirmed today that the Provincial Government received the independent review of the Memorandum of Understanding for a New Long-Term Energy Purchase and Development Initiative between Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and Hydro-Québec on Thursday, April 30.
Given that the report touches on several matters of significant commercial sensitivity, the report is now undergoing a full technical and legal review before it can be publicly released. That review is ongoing.
The Provincial Government also believes it is important that members of the public first hear directly from the independent review committee upon the release of its report. The report will be released on Tuesday, May 19. All three members of the independent review committee will be present in St. John’s on that date.
The Provincial Government will withhold further comment on the contents of the report until it is publicly released.
Quote
“This is an independent report into one of the most important public policy issues facing Newfoundland and Labrador. It is essential that commercially sensitive information is properly reviewed, and it is equally important that the public hear directly from the independent committee when the report is released. We will respect that process.”
Honourable Tony Wakeham
Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
