Public Advisory: Cape St. Mary’s and Mistaken Point Ecological Reserves Opening May 11

Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve and the Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will open to visitors for the season on Monday, May 11, until Friday, October 16.

The visitor centre at Cape St. Mary’s will be open Monday to Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. beginning on June 3. An announcement will be made in late summer regarding fall hours.

The Mistaken Point Interpretation Centre will open Monday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Viewing of the fossils at Mistaken Point takes place through guided hikes and can be booked by email at mistakenpointtour@gov.nl.ca, by telephone at 709-438-1011, or online at Mistaken Point | UNESCO World Heritage Site | Newfoundland.

To ensure the safety and comfort of wildlife and visitors, please note that pets are not permitted in the Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve or on guided hikes at Mistaken Point.

In 2025, the Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve recorded almost 17,000 visitors. Staff at the Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve led 231 guided hikes last year with more than 2,700 participants.
