The Honourable Chris Tibbs, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.
Undertakings Registered:
Queensway Gold Project (Reg. 2408)
Proponent: New Found Gold Corp.
The proponent is proposing to develop an open‑pit gold mine at the Queensway North Property, located east of the town of Appleton. The project would include four open pits, ore crushing and sorting facilities, waste rock storage, and supporting infrastructure. Ore would be transported to the existing Pine Cove processing facility for final processing. The mine is designed to produce approximately 700 tonnes of ore per day over an operational period estimated at seven years, with potential for extension. The undertaking was registered on May 7, 2026. The deadline for public comment is June 12, 2026, and the minister’s decision is due by June 21, 2026.

Glover Island ATV Trail (Reg. 2407)
Proponent: Where Ya Wannabe Outfitters / 77375 Newfoundland and Labrador Ltd.
The proponent is proposing to operate a 3.5-kilometer ATV trail for recreational purposes to access a network of trails and an existing Outfitting Lodge on Glover Island. Access to the lodge currently relies on float planes, which have become unreliable due to low water levels during dry fall periods.
