In recognition of Municipal Awareness Week, May 10 to 16, the Honourable Chris Tibbs, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, is encouraging Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to celebrate municipal leaders around the province.
In partnership with Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador and the Professional Municipal Administrators of Newfoundland and Labrador, Minister Tibbs was pleased to proclaim Municipal Awareness Week at the MNL’s Municipal Symposium 2026 held in Gander from May 7 to 9.
Municipal leaders help shape the future of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Provincial Government is committed to working with them, listening, solving problems together, and building new opportunities, so communities come first.
Throughout Municipal Awareness Week, towns and cities will be holding dedicated events to acknowledge the unwavering commitment and contributions of their municipal leaders. For more information about the week, residents can check with their local councils or visit Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador’s website.
To help communities remain strong and sustainable, Budget 2026: Opportunity For All of Us is investing more than $200 million in key funding initiatives including Municipal Operating Grants, Municipal Capital Works, the Community Enhancement Employment Program, Special Assistance Grants, Provincial Gas Tax, and the federal Build Communities Strong Fund.
