Public Advisory: Investigation Leads to Charges for Discharging a Firearm from a Provincial Highway

A Grand Falls-Windsor man has been convicted on one count of discharging a firearm from a provincial highway following an investigation by the Resource Enforcement Division of the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands.

Joseph Blackmore was convicted in Grand Falls-Windsor Provincial Court on March 4, 2026, resulting in a $1,000 fine, a five-year hunting prohibition, and forfeiture of a firearm and moose. The incident occurred west of the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor near the Grand Falls Golf Club.

It is an offence under the Wild Life Act to discharge a firearm from or across a railway, highway, public road or private road. It is also an offence to discharge a firearm within 1,000 metres of a school, playground or athletic field, or within 300 metres of a dwelling.

The public is encouraged to report suspected illegal hunting activity, as information provided by the public plays a significant role in assisting investigations being carried out by resource enforcement officers.
