The Honourable Pleaman Forsey, Minister of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands, today announced that the Newfoundland and Labrador Disaster Financial Assistance Program has been activated to assist municipalities and local service districts impacted by summer 2025 wildfires on the Avalon Peninsula.
Applications are available for municipalities and local service districts that were affected by the wildfires that occurred in August 2025 in Conception Bay North, Holyrood, and Paddy’s Pond. These local authorities may apply to NL-DFAP for reimbursement of eligible costs. This application is available for local authorities only – NL-DFAP for the Summer 2025 wildfires does not apply to individual households, businesses, property owners, etc.
Eligible expenses for cost-sharing under the program may include response costs such as overtime wages, evacuation activities, and operational costs such as equipment rentals and materials used for fire suppression, as well as restoration activities such as repairs to uninsurable infrastructure, costs associated with post-disaster recovery planning.
Compensation for eligible expenses is based on criteria established by both the federal and provincial disaster financial assistance programs. For detailed information on the Newfoundland and Labrador Disaster Financial Assistance program:

- Call 1-888-395-5611
- Email NL-DFAP@gov.nl.ca
The deadline to submit a claim is September 25, 2026.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Disaster Financial Assistance program provides financial assistance for uninsurable loss and damage caused by adverse events deemed eligible under the federal Disaster Financial Assistance
Arrangements program. The Provincial Government will work with the Federal Government to recover eligible expenses associated with damage to municipal infrastructure and to maximize benefits that are applicable for coverage under the federal Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements Program.
