Provincial Government Delivers on Budget 2026 Commitment to Increase Self-Managed Care Worker Wages

July 7, 2026

The Provincial Government is delivering on its commitment to support self-managed care workers by increasing the hourly wage rate by $2.00 per hour, effective July 1, 2026.

The wage increase brings the self-managed care rate to $19.05 per hour, representing an increase of nearly 12 per cent and reinforcing the Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthen home and community-based services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Self-managed care is an important service delivery option within the Home Support Program, allowing clients and families to hire, coordinate and manage their own home support workers. The model promotes client choice and flexibility while helping improve access to services.

The $2.00 per hour wage increase was approved as part of Budget 2026 and reflects the Provincial Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the home support workforce and ensuring clients can continue to access the care they need.

Quote
“The implementation of this increase is a clear example of a promise made and a promise kept. Self-managed care workers play a critical role in helping individuals maintain their independence and remain in their homes and communities. This investment recognizes the value of their contributions and supports the continued delivery of high-quality care across the province.”
