Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Invests in Cultural Events Across the Province

July 16, 2026

Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation Andrea Barbour announced today an investment of nearly $110,000 to support festivals, celebrations and cultural projects in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

This is an increase of $43,000 from last year’s funding to support public gatherings that celebrate and preserve local culture through engagement with arts and heritage, while showcasing the creativity, traditions and unique cultural identity that help define Newfoundland and Labrador.

This will support a range of community-based initiatives that encourage residents and visitors to experience and celebrate the province’s diverse cultural heritage. Funded activities include community festivals and celebrations, cultural skills-sharing events, significant anniversaries and commemorations, and multicultural festivals and celebrations. Eligible recipients of funding include not-for-profit community groups and organizations, municipalities, local service districts, Indigenous Governments and Organizations and other Indigenous community groups.

Today’s announcement reflects the Provincial Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting cultural activities that enrich communities, create opportunities for artists and heritage practitioners, and showcase Newfoundland and Labrador’s unique cultural tapestry.

All funded initiatives can be found in the backgrounder below.
