The Honourable Chris Tibbs, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.
Undertaking Registered:
Jumper’s Brook Snowmobile Trail Re-Route (Reg. 2427)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation
The proponent is proposing to re-route an existing Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation trail near Jumper’s Brook, east of Bishop’s Falls in central Newfoundland. The new section of trail would be approximately 600 metres in length and would bypass an area where the trail uses the NL Hydro’s transmission line right-of-way. Re-routing the trail would improve trail safety by avoiding hazards such as towers, guy wires and uneven terrain. Construction would also include widening some sections of access roads in the same area.

The undertaking was registered on July 23, 2026. The deadline for public comment is August 28, 2026, and the minister’s decision is due by September 6, 2026.

Environmental Impact Statement Amendment Required:
Botwood and Area EVREC Green Energy Project (Reg. 2327)
Proponent: Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC)
Following government and public review the Environmental Impact Statement submitted on May 15, 2026, for the Botwood and Area EVREC Green Energy Project, the minister has determined that more information is needed and an amendment to the Environmental Impact Statement is necessary to inform the significance of the environmental effects.

Blue Cove Quarry (Reg. 2412)
Proponent: Department of Transportation and Infrastructure
The project has been released from environmental assessment subject to the conditions as outlined in the minister’s decision letter available on the Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change website at: www.gov.nl.ca/eccc/projects/project-2412/.
Plan Accepted and Condition of Release Met:
Northeast Arm Former US Recreation Camp Demolition (Reg. 2362)
Proponent: Public Services and Procurement Canada
The minister has advised the proponent that the conditions of release to submit a Waste Management Plan and to permanently close access upon completion of the Project have been met. The Waste Management Plan is available on the Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change website at: www.gov.nl.ca/eccc/projects/project-2362/.
