The Honourable Barry Petten, Minister of Transportation and infrastructure, today announced more than $9 million in funding for municipal capital works projects in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador through the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) community stream.
The announcement took place today in St. Mary’s where more than $656,000 of the funding was allocated for the second phase of culvert replacements in the town. The scope of the project includes the removal and replacement of approximately 34 culverts and the reinstatement of the road once the project concludes. This project is aimed at improving stormwater management for the town.
The total funding will support critical water, wastewater and related municipal infrastructure projects that will help a number of communities maintain reliable services, protect public health, and strengthen the infrastructure residents depend on every day.

The BCSF program supports strategic infrastructure investments that improve the quality of life of Canadians while helping communities address pressing infrastructure needs. Through cost-shared investments, municipalities can undertake projects that modernize essential services, enhance system reliability, and support sustainable growth.
Municipal infrastructure has a direct impact on how residents experience the towns and communities they call home. Reliable water and wastewater systems support housing development, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and community resilience. They help communities attract investment, accommodate growth, and improve the services residents rely on every day.
Through collaboration with the Federal Government on programs such as BCSF, The Provincial Government is working with communities to renew critical infrastructure assets and address local priorities as part of the ongoing commitment to supporting municipal infrastructure needs and building stronger communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
