The Provincial Government understands how important fertility services are for individuals and families hoping to start or grow their families. Today, the Provincial Government is announcing an increase to the one-time Fertility Subsidy Program to provide additional support for people seeking this care.
Supported by an investment of $1.8 million in Budget 2026, the Fertility Subsidy Program will now provide eligible individuals and families with one-time funding of up to $29,000, an increase from the previous maximum of $20,000.
This increase brings the total budget for the Fertility Subsidy Program to $5.8 million.
The Honourable Lela Evans, Minister of Health and Community Services and Minister of Women and Gender Equality, will be available to the media today, Friday, August 14, at 11:30 a.m. in the Confederation Building, West Block lobby, to discuss the expansion.
The increased subsidy is intended to ease financial pressures for people considering in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and help improve access to care, while work continues to establish IVF services here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services currently offers a range of supports for the diagnosis and treatment of fertility issues, including counselling, fertility investigation, follicular tracking, intrauterine insemination, therapeutic donor insemination, and fertility preservation of sperm.
