The Provincial Government has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to engage a multidisciplinary consulting team to undertake a comprehensive assessment of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, a key step in planning for the future of health care infrastructure in the province.
The work will examine both the current condition of the existing hospital buildings and the potential for expansion that could support additional acute care services and extend the facility’s useful life.
Through a competitive procurement process, the Provincial Government is seeking a qualified consulting team to complete a detailed facility condition assessment, accessibility review, environmental and hazardous materials investigations, and an expansion feasibility study. The assessment will identify required upgrades, estimate future capital investment needs, and explore options for expanding the site.
The study will provide critical information to support long-term health infrastructure planning and future decision-making regarding the role of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in meeting the region’s growing health care needs.
In January 2026, the Provincial Government outlined its priorities for key infrastructure projects that will create jobs for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, strengthen essential services, and ensure affordability and sustainability for the province. At that time, the Provincial Government announced that planning would begin to redevelop St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital to meet the needs of the population it serves, with a focus on affordability and extending the life of existing infrastructure. The assessment and feasibility study represent the next phase of that work and will help determine the most effective path forward.
