The Honourable Pleaman Forsey, Minister of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands, will participate in a National Tree Day event at 11:00 a.m. to highlight National Forest Week.

Tree Canada, the City of St. John’s and community partners will celebrate National Tree Day at the Shea Heights Community Centre and plant more than 100 yellow birch trees with Grade 4 students from St. John Bosco School.

In Corner Brook, Hal Cormier, MHA for Humber-St. George’s and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Forestry Agriculture and Lands, will be at Margaret Bowater Park at 10:00 a.m. for Forestry Day in the Park. This event is co-hosted by the department, Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd., Natural Resources Canada – Canadian Forest Service, and the Forest Safety Association of NL.

The Community of Glovertown is also hosting a tree-planting event at the Ken Diamond Memorial Park, and staff and students at Glovertown Academy will also take part in tree planting activities.

National Tree Day is an opportunity to recognize the importance of trees and forests to Newfoundland and Labrador’s environment, economy, culture and quality of life.
