“I share in Canada’s disappointment that France recently pledged its intention to launch an exploratory snow crab fishery on the extension of Canada’s continental shelf, which is not within their authority. I have spoken with Minister Thompson to share my unwavering support for our province’s fishery and the people that make their living in this historic industry.

“Minister Thompson assured me Canada does not support this action and DFO is working closely with Global Affairs Canada to determine next steps.

“I assure Newfoundlanders and Labradorians I will work with Minister Thompson to safeguard this critical industry and that Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as Canada’s position is abundantly clear.”
